Health of the Very Poorest Workshop

    Project ID: TR-001 Status: Completed

The DFID workshop on Meeting the Health Related Needs of the Very Poor. was organised and facilitated by the DFID Health Systems Resource Centre, and took place over the period 14-15th February 2005. Participants included members of DFID Policy Division and DFID advisers from country and regional offices. Workshop objectives were to enhance capacity among DFID staff to: (i) describe the evidence of what works in terms of health and social protection strategies, (ii) to meet the health-related needs of the very poor, (iii) critically analyse the challenges and opportunities for scaling up interventions that work at community level, and (iv) explore and debate the implications of current evidence on their own work and professional practice. IHP Fellows Dr Rannan-Eliya and Dr Somanathan contributed as resource persons to this workshop by preparing a session and a briefing paper to examine experiences of health systems in Asia to reach and protect the poor, based on the work of the Equitap project. Dr. Rannan-Eliya led the session and facilitated the discussions.
