Dr Wijesinghe selected to present IHP work on health spending projections at Global Forum 10 Conference, Cairo |

An abstract submitted by Dr. Ruki Wijesinghe on her work with Dr Rannan-Eliya on methods for projecting health spending with the impact of ageing has been selected for oral presentation at the Global Forum 10 Conference, Cairo, Egypt.
This work was commissioned by the WHO Kobe Center to review current global literature on methods for projecting the impact of ageing on future health spending in developing countries, and to make recommendations for a methodology to use in future country studies. |

Review of future Asia health policy challenges released at "Asia 2015 Conference", London |

As part of the preparation for the Asia 2015 Conference. Asia 2015, held in London 6-7 March 2006, UK DFID commissioned the DFID Health Resource Centre and IHP to assess the current situation and progress in acheiving health MDGs in Asian countries. The results of this exercise were presented to Conference participants in the form of a conference briefing paper. |

National workshop held to discuss findings of ILO Social Security Inquiry |

A national capacity-building workshop was held at the Galadari Hotel, Colombo, 25 February 2006 to present and discuss the findings of the ILO Social Security Inquiry pilot project in Sri Lanka. Organised by IHP in collaboration with ILO�s Colombo office, the meeting was launched with a keynote address by The Hon. Athadua Seneviratne, Minister for Labour Relations and Foreign Employment. The workshop was also attended by Mrs Jegarajasingham, Secretary for Social Services, Ms. Tine Staermorse, Acting Director of the ILO Office in Sri Lanka, Mr John Woodall of the Social Security Department of ILO. and numerous representatives of public and private agencies involved in social security provision in the country. The main discussions focused on strengthening national reporting of social security statistics, and identifying which agencies should take responsibility. Key pointers to next steps were identified and will be followed up by ILO in the future. |

Dr Rannan-Eliya appointed to the WHO Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research STAC |

Dr Rannan-Eliya, IHP Fellow, has been appointed to the Scientific, Technical and Advisory Committee (STAC) of the WHO Alliance on Health Policy and Systems Research. As part of this three year appointment, Dr Rannan-Eliya will work with other STAC members to review the work of the Alliance and advise on its expanding activities. |
