Maninda Amarasekera completed his undergraduate education at the University of Sydney in 2016. He majored in Microbiology and Immunology, and completed his honours in Cancer biology at the Centenary Institute, in the Gene and Stem Cell Therapy Group, and graduated with a First Class Degree. His honours year was focused on functional characterisation of mutations in a gene CTCF in cases of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. He has received a Research Training Program Stipend Scholarship for his Ph.D. and will be commencing his Ph.D. in 2017 with the University of Sydney and the Kids Research Institute. The focus of his Ph.D. is to investigate the impact of Lipid droplets on cellular phenotypes, in the context of cancer.
