JICA Asia- Africa Knowledge Co-Creation Program Hospital TQM Seminar |
|
Project ID: TR-004 |
Status: Completed |
The Sri Lankan public hospital sector has been a pioneer in Sri Lanka and in the region in adopting Japanese 5S and TQM management approaches to improve hospital performance and productivity. Some government hospitals have in recent years even won national awards for their performance. Recognising this experience, this workshop was arranged at the request of JICA to share the Sri Lankan experience with a large group of African hospital managers and planners who were participating in a Tokyo-based TQM training course. During their stay in Sri Lanka, participants were taken to the field to view the application of 5S-based TQM in a range of Ministry of Health hospitals, and instructed by leading Sri Lankan hospital management experts. The workshop was a unique opportunity for African health managers to learn from the Sri Lankan experience, and IHP played an important role in making this happen with its ability to act as an effective intermediary between the Ministry of Health and foreign visitors. |
