Takemi Working Group Taskforce |
|
Project ID: HF-001 |
Status: Completed |
This project supported the efforts of the working group on Challenges in Global Health and Japans Contributions, otherwise known as the Takemi Working Group. The Takemi Working Group has promoted dialogue with various stakeholders in the global health field, within and outside Japan, to encourage a participatory approach to positioning global health high on the agenda of the Toyako G8 Summit, which took place in July 2008. The Japan Center for International Exchange, headed by Tadashi Yamamoto, is serving as the groups secretariat.
A new task force was organized in Japan to maintain the momentum that was built prior to the Toyako G8 Summit and act as a catalyst to integrate into the G8 process the many new policy proposals that are emerging from various actors. The task force, directed by Professor Keizo Takemi, in close collaboration with Professor Michael Reich of Harvard University, presented its recommendations to the Japanese government, which endorsed them and passed them as its recommendations on to Italy, the host country for the 2008 G8 Summit. The policy recommendations were produced through an intense process of dialogue with experts and practitioners around the world with the active participation of the three research teams. Dr Rannan-Eliya, IHP Fellow, lead one of the three teams, which was responsible for health financing issues. |
